Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour (when scheduled). Examination of one or more topics related to international and area studies. May be repeated for credit with topic change. P/NP or letter grading.
Exploration of origins, development, and impact of modern revolutions and revolutionary movements in Middle East. Beginning with Iranian Constitutional Revolution of 1906, through Arab Spring and Syrian civil war, study illuminates conditions that make revolutions probable; and explores why some attempts succeed and others fail.
