Exploration of unique opportunities and challenges facing entrepreneurs who employ business skills and disciplines while working with companies, nonprofits, and governments to tackle some of world's toughest social issues. Compelling notion that one can do good and do well--that one can generate self-sustaining profits and positive social impacts--has fueled innovations and new approaches to societal problems. Case studies offer opportunity for students to employ learned concepts and frameworks for choosing proper legal structure, accessing capital, going to scale, and measuring impact to real challenges faced by real social entrepreneurs working in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. Guest speakers share challenges and opportunities that practitioners in field face each day, as they tackle issues of poverty, environmental sustainability, disease prevention, and economic development.
